Global Importance of English

Language plays and important role in human life. Out of all the languages in the world, English is considered as the international language. There are some reasons why English is so important and many people attempt to learn it. I'd like to share the reasons in my point of view. Sri Lanka is a developing country and everyone has to learn English because today everything seems to be English. When we consider about education in Sri Lanka, children are forced to learn English starting at preschool in order to make their English better. English is added as a compulsory subject in O Level examination and in A Level examination in SL. Sri Lankan universities are conducting almost all the studies through English medium. After completing a university degree it's time to take up a professional course and of course those professional courses are in English medium. So I think you have to have a very good knowledge of English to be educated and to shine in the society. The next fact I'm sharing with you is finding a job in this competitive society. Every boss is looking for qualified, talented, smart and confident employees. For example if you apply for a high class job and when you go for the interview, do you know what kind of employees are going to be hired up? Obviously as I mentioned above qualified, talented, smart and confident employees with fluent English. Why English is so important to find a job? because we already know that people deal with others in English language especially in the business world, scientific world and other. So what my point here is that you can't get a pretty good job or a promotion without knowing proper English. How do we communicate with others people in foreign countries who do not speak our mother tongue? The answer is using English because everyone knows at least a little English. English helps to raise up tourism because its easy to communicate with the foreigners. Just think about how hard would it be to keep tourism in each country if tourist guides and the tourist didn't know at least a little English. English language makes the things go easier that's what I think. Books! A massive quantity of books are written in English language so you must know the English language to gain some knowledge, to learn something new or to read more. Even Sinhalese books are translated to English language so that foreigners can read and enjoy and on the other hand foreign books which are not written in English are translated to English language so that anyone who knows English well can read those books too. The final reason is internet. All most all the information sharing on the internet is in english so you must know better english to understand what is it all about and also to communicate other people via internet. In conclusion, I must tell this, if you want to go ahead in your life and in your stream you should learn English so that it would be easier to reach your achievements. That is how English plays a major role in our life.

“Interpreting The Day the Earth Stood Still for Contemporary Film Audiences” Review Essay

In the article â€Å"Interpreting The Day the Earth Stood Still for Contemporary Film Audiences† written in 2008, the Author, Joshua Pardon, writes about the messages that were sent to the American film audience of 1951 through the film The Day the Earth Stood Still, based on a short story by Harry Bates written in 1940. These messages ranged from topics like the societal costs of atomic technology and both a negative and positive view of militarism, to criticism of the mass media. He also writes about how, unlike TV shows, and stories by the baby boom generation portrayed the 1950’s as a time when everything was wonderful for every citizen all the time, the argument can be made that it was a â€Å"strange and weird† time full of uncertainty, fear, and paranoia; and this film portrays these feelings, with strong messages that Pardon suggest could be applied to current world events. To make you better understand his article, he added a very well written summery of the movie followed by interpretations of the film’s scenes that could be applied to what was happening in America in 1951 and events happening in 2008. He compares the Cold War’s potential to lead to atomic catastrophe to the current war on terrorism; the public’s confusion on whether to trust scientist to the current debate of stem cell research, climate change and the scientific basis of evolution; and the media’s need to sensationalize current events take away from the real issues both in 1951 and today. I would have to say that Pardon’s article is very convincing and well written; the amount of information given by the author is very satisfactory. There is plenty of background information on what were the current events in the 1950s on every interpretation on the not so hidden messages of the movie that allow you to see the similarity of today’s issues and clearly see how the movie can be relatable today. Also, it goes into details of every important character, and even compares characters to specific iconic people from that era, such as Albert Einstein; and even the character Tom Stevens, a co mpany man with selfish intentions as a negative portrayal of a greedy American business culture. Such great details of interpretation make this article a very good and fulfilling read. In my opinion, the weakest part of this article is that, although the information given allows you to paint a clear picture of what the author is trying to communicate, it often added too much information of what almost felt like irrelevant information. Additionally, I felt that the author jumped from one subject to the next,  just to bring it back up later in the article, and even though it wasn’t confusing and the information was always different, it made the subject feel redundant. To sum up, Pardon’s article on the interpretation of the film The Day the Earth Stood Still, was a very informative and eye opening article that clearly shows all the political messages in the film. His words were able to paint a very good picture of what was happening in 1951, when the movie was made, so that you can better understand the messages that were being sent by the film that allowed us to b etter see how, even though it had been over 60 decades since this article was written, the film is still relevant today.

PH Titration Lab Report Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

PH Titration - Lab Report Example The paper describes the experiment. During titration, it is essential to figure out the ‘equivalence point’ where moles of acid and moles of base added become equivalent. To aid an experimenter in this situation, a halochromic organic compound known as ‘indicator’ (s.a. phenolphthalein, methyl red, methyl orange, and bromothymol blue) is incorporated where appearance of color change from clear solution signifies the ‘end point’ or the point assumed to be nearest the point of equivalence. At this stage, the volume of reading from the burette is noted down the instant the indicator changes color. With experimental outcomes comprising known molar concentrations and volumes of acid and base used, pH is calculated. In place of an indicator, glass electrode is utilized so that multiple pHs may be read and graphed from which to determine the pH at the equivalence point. For the neutralization reaction occurring between HCl (aq) and NaOH (aq): For the n eutralization reaction occurring between CH3COOH (aq) and NaOH (aq): Hypothesis: The equivalence point is achieved once the titration has gone to the extent when the acid (analyte) and the base (titrant) are in equimolar amounts which takes place on yielding a neutral pH along a steep region in the titration curve Aim: To locate the ‘equivalence point’ through the measure of pH based on the titrant volume vs. pH-titration curve obtained in the experiment and identify the remaining species (in excess) as well as find the pH of the resulting solution after each titration attempt Method: The burette was filled with 1.0 NaOH to the zero mark. A 250- conical flask was rinsed with distilled water, emptying the flask and refilling it with about 50 of deionised water, after which, a 25 of 0.1 HCl was poured into the flask via pipette and the flask was placed on the magnetic stirrer. With the stirrer bar dropped in the flask, the glass electrode was immersed in the flask then th e burette was positioned over the flask’s mouth such that the NaOH would be added into it without obstruction from the glass electrode. The magnetic stirrer was turned on and the flask was adjusted in the manner that would enable the stirrer bar to move freely, having no obstructive contact with the glass electrode throughout the titration process. Measuring of the pH prior to titration was initiated then successive additions of the base titrant were carried out starting with 1 until the equivalent point was arrived at, followed by 0.2-additions that sum up to approximately 8 of NaOH. Final addition of two consecutive 1- titrant amounts was made, taking into account the pH reading for each addition from the onset of titration to this point. Another trial (using the same analyte -- HCl) was performed, then titration was repeated, this time using a different analyte (0.1 CH3COOH) and applying the same quantity (50 ) of deionised water and of 1.0 NaOH. As conducted for HCl, pHs of neutralization reaction between HOAc (analyte) and the titrant (NaOH) were correspondingly read after each base addition. Results and calculations: Note: ( 1 cm3 ? 1 mL ; 1 mol / dm3 ? 1 M ) pH @ equivalence point is about 6.8 based on the graph. This corresponds to NaOH volume of about 5.5 mL. mmoles NaOH = (1.0 M) (9.00 mL) = 9.0 mmoles NaOH mmoles HCl = (0.1 M) (25.00 mL) = 2.5 mmoles HCl Upon neutralization, 9.00 mmoles - 2.5 mmoles = 6.5 mmoles NaOH left total volume = 50 + 25 + 9 = 84 mL [OH-] = = 0.07738 M ---? pOH = -log (0.07738) pOH = 1.11 so that pH = 14 - 1.11 ---? pH = 12.89 Since NaOH and HCl are strong base and strong acid, respectively, pH

Marketing Strategy by Mercedes-Benz Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words

Marketing Strategy by Mercedes-Benz - Assignment Example It is evidently clear from the discussion that Mercedes-Benz is a famous German Brand of automobiles, created by the merger between Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) and Benz & Cie. in 1926. This event marked the birth of a new car brand to hold on to the tradition of the two oldest car manufacturers in the world and also to ensure a successful future for both the companies. The trademark of Mercedes-Benz represents the value of innovation, quality, awareness of tradition and performance. The enterprise is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. The enterprise focuses on the manufacturing of luxury vehicles, trucks, passenger vehicles, and buses. The Mercedes-AMG has been awarded the ‘Engine of the Year Awards 2015† which demonstrates the company’s expertise in the development and production of high-performance engines. Mercedes-Benz won at the â€Å"World Car Awards† awards in 2015 for three consecutive times whereas the Mercedes-Benz C-Class won the â€Å"W orld Car of the Year 2015 Award†. This represents the tremendous popularity of the brand among its consumers. The government of Germany highly stable which facilitates the business environment of the nation. Germany’s recent coalition government is in the process of altering the successful reforms in well-meaning labor market measures, but this may affect the future investment in the German automobile sector. It is a high wage country with respect to the automobile industry. The government’s energy policy also affects the other industries which act as suppliers to the automobile industry such as the metal industry. The government also needs to design a sound educational policy as Germany is dependent on its human capital due to the lack of natural resources. However, the German government also takes steps to boost the automobile industry such as providing financial assistance including measures like loan guarantees and tax reliefs.

Second part Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Second part - Essay Example Currently, a number of studies indicate that many employers still have this notion, and this makes them discriminate against these people when recruiting new employees. Exterior appearance is usually significant for those positions where an employee directly associates with suppliers, customers and other stakeholders. Therefore, an employer can decide not to hire a person with a tattoo for such positions with a notion that most stakeholders will consider them as members of criminal and other outlawed gangs. Therefore, this paper primarily focuses on discussing why employers should discriminate against people with tattoos at workplace. In different societies, tattoos symbolize certain cultures or events. For example, in certain cultures, tattoos portray a person’s status. This is mostly common in the western world. For instance, a person wearing a tattoo of his or her mother or father may indicate his or her love for the family. Moreover, it may also symbolize that a person belongs to a certain clan or community (Bredeson & Goree, 2012). In the 19th Century, tattoos were common phenomena among criminal and outlawed gangs, which differentiated them as anti-social members of the society who only complied with their own rules and beliefs. For example, bikers wore tattoos to indicate that they were against their society’s values and norms. In some circumstances, tattoos also affiliated a person to a given political party or religion. For example, the Catholics may wear a tattoo of a cross to signify their religious affiliation (Bredeson & Goree, 2012). Current studies, on the discrimination of people with tattoos at the workplace, have established that 40 percent of people aged between 19 to 30 years at least have a tattoo (Bredeson & Goree, 2012). These studies further indicate that 40 percent and 18 percent of people with a tattoo have more than two or more and six or more tattoos respectively (Bredeson & Goree, 2012). Therefore, this data calls for an

European Strategy towards Asian Countries Essay

European Strategy towards Asian Countries - Essay Example European market became saturated for many of the big organizations which forced them to look for options in the emerging markets like India, China, and the Middle East etc. Europe is blessed with a lot of developed countries such as Britain, France Germany etc. Traditionally or historically, Europe has had close ties with Asian countries during the ancient periods. However, the current relationships are much more meaningful than the relationships during the ancient periods. Europeans tried to exploit the resources of the weaker Asian regions earlier whereas at present they are trying to establish relationships with the Asian region for mutual benefits. This paper briefly analyses the European strategy towards Asian countries especially towards, India, China and the Middle East. Europe’s relation with China and India Even though EU has established relations with China in 1975 itself, these relations never prospered into a bigger canvas because of the political differences betwe en China and European countries. Earlier, most of the Eastern European countries were under a communist regime which helped China and Europe to establish relationships. However, the destruction of communism from the Eastern European countries brought almost the entire Europe under the democratic platform. This radical transformation of Europe into a democratic region affected their relations with communist China. However, China succeeded in giving a more liberal look to their approaches under the leadership of Deng in the 80’s and 90’s and they are currently the most rapidly developing economies in the world. China is now a global power: decisions taken in Beijing are central to virtually all the EU’s pressing global concerns, whether climate change, nuclear proliferation, or rebuilding economic stability. China’s tightly controlled economic and industrial policies strongly affect the EU’s economic well-being. China’s policies in Africa are transforming parts of a neighboring continent whose development is important to Europe. Yet the EU continues to treat China as the emerging power it used to be, rather than the global force it has become (A power audit of EU-China relations, 2009, p.1) China is one country which causing threats not only to the Americans but also to the Europeans. It is difficult for Europe to isolate China, only because of political reasons. America, the strong critic of China, has already established good business relations with China.

The Theories of Financial Intermediation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

The Theories of Financial Intermediation - Essay Example A lot of these imperfections direct towards specific kinds of transaction costs. These asymmetries can produce unfavourable selection, they can be temporary, generate moral exposure, and they can result a costly verification and enforcement. As proven on different studies, financial intermediaries come out to at least partially surmount these costs. Based on the interpretation of Leland and Pyle (32); financial intermediation act as an alliance of information-sharing, and intermediary coalitions as argued by Diamond (51) can attain economies of scale. He also projected that financial intermediaries can effectively monitor returns by acting on behalf of ultimate savers. Hart (1995) explained that savers optimistically value the intermediations in terms of ultimate investments. According to Campbell and Kracaw (863-882) financial intermediations can create a useful incentive result of short-term debt on banker's behalf. The deposit funding can turn out the right incentives in managing the bank. A subtle financial organization necessary to control the bank managers produced illiquid assets (Diamond 393; Miller 21). In instances where the borrower in the bank chose direct finance; the role of a brokerage is in acted by financial intermediaries as explained by Fama (39-58) as investment banks. On this situation, reputation is at risk and according to Campbell and Kracaw (885) in financing, the financier's reputation as well as the borrower's is relevant. Second Principle: The Transaction Costs Approach This approach agrees with the concept of complete markets unlike the initial approach specified. It agrees that transaction process is of no convexities. In this approach, the financial intermediaries using economies of scale in the transaction process work in coalitions with borrowers. Many experts explained that the concept of transaction costs comprises not only monetary transaction costs, but at the same time covers auditing, searches and monitoring costs. Therefore, the function of the financial intermediaries is to transform specific financial claims into a so-called qualitative asset in this example. It is called offering diversified opportunities through liquidity as Ross (23-40) stated. The provision of liquidity is a main function for investors and savers and highly for corporate customers, in which the provision of diversification is welcomed in institutional as well as personal financing. Oldfield and Santomero (WP #95) in their submitted work paper stipulated that this l iquidity plays a key role in asset pricing theory. Financial intermediation then becomes exogenous with transaction costs. Third Principle: Principle in accordance to the regulation of money production Regulation affects solvency and liquidity inside the financial market or organization. Diamond (414) argued that the capital of the bank affects its refinancing ability, bank safety, and ability to extract repayment from the borrowers. Regulation as viewed on the basis of legality convenes as a vital factor in financial economy. However, the actions of the

Assessing Strategies Toward a Goal Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Assessing Strategies Toward a Goal - Coursework Example I aimed at helping my uncle to make certain important decisions in general. I found balance-sheet approach very apt in this regard. â€Å"Balance sheets deal with the acceptability and unacceptability of both benefits and costs.† (Egan, 2010: 373) I focused on utilizing â€Å"empathetic thought patterns† (Egan, 2010: 374) and â€Å"active listening skills† (Egan, 374) to examine my uncle through the critical question answer session. The main problem he was facing about budgeting was fund allocation. I suggested the strategy of long term savings and addressing the long term liabilities to be most important. I asked my uncle, â€Å"What are the benefits of choosing such a strategy for you and the other significant ones?† Also, I asked, â€Å"To what degree are these benefits acceptable?† (Egan, 2010: 373) In answering my questions, my uncle expressed his concern about his children’s higher education. Also, by getting rid from the long term liab ilities like mortgage and debts, my uncle could obtain more financial security for his family. Thus I discovered that he was worried about the financial requirements of his children’s higher education. This was a plus for my uncle. However, he did not have a proper investment policy and was prone to neglect the existing liabilities. This was, of course, a minus point. Finally, I helped my uncle to set two most important goals.

America Air Pollution Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

America Air Pollution - Essay Example The air pollution was in the first industrial revolution because of massive amounts high-sulfur coal usage in the production process. Great amounts of industrial production largely used high-sulfur coal hence producing abundant SO2 into the air. Air pollution specifically in the cities is not a new encounter. In the Middle Ages, using coal in the cities had escalated. The challenge of poor quality of urban air as early as in the sixteenth century depended on the use of coal. After the first industrial revolution, the air pollution problem formed and developed during the second industrial revolution as a form of â€Å"smoke†. Many industries were located in the cities and towns. The fumes from these industries and the coal from domestic heating in the home made the levels of air population in the urban region be high. In times of foggy situations, the level of pollution increased leading to the formation of urban smogs (a mixture of fog and smoke). This made the cities in America to be brought to a halt, interfering with the traffic and causing the rates of death to increase dramatically. The influence of pollution on vegetation and building was obvious. In the year 1960 to 1990, the congress of the United States enacted a number of clean air acts that were useful in strengthening the air pollution regulation. These initiatives were followed by many states in the United States. The Clean Air Act established some numerical concentration limits of th e basic air pollutants thus giving the reporting and mechanisms of enforcement.

Brief discussion of Western Civilization Essay Example for Free

Brief discussion of Western Civilization Essay A civilization is usually marked by a growth that can change the ways of the people in a specific time frame and the period after that. The said growth is perfectly exemplified in the western civilization. The Western culture is greatly affected by the highlights of the history. It is influenced by some ideas from the East. The Mesopotamians and Egyptians took part in the encounter of the Greeks and the Persian Empire. Hebrews formed the belief in a single god which is known as the Hebrew monotheism. Still, during the Classical Age of Greece, the Greeks nurtured the social, political and religions aspects of the West. Philosophers like Plato, Socrates, Aristotle and Herodotus were among the few who formed the cornerstones of Greek literacy. Athens followed a democratic civilization while the state of Sparta was a disciplined one. The period was predated by the Hellenistic period in which Greeks and Macedonians built kingdoms after conquering the Persian Empire. During this era, women played roles in politics. The rise of science, culture and arts came into existence. By 8th Century B. C, Rome was brought about by Latin-speaking people. Octavian aided in transforming a government system of a republican institution. The Roman Empire grew became known as one of the largest in the world. Languages in Rome in the present time like French, Spanish, Latin and Portuguese were strongly based on Latin. The Roans concocted a rich culture in law, language and engineering as well. After 200 years, it came to a decline and paved way to the period of Early Middle Ages. The era gave birth to the widespread Religion of Christianity through the works of Paul of Tarsus. Germanic kingdoms also became apparent in the part of Western Europe. The Carolingian Empire was ruled by Charlemagne, a brood of a Germanic tribe who accepted Christianity. Traditions from the classical age, the Germanic tribes and Christianity merged to give identity to the new civilization of Europe. This was threatened by Vikings and Muslims. Fortunately, the civilization was kept intact. By the dawn of the 9th and 10th century, agricultural production was heightened. Trade was also established along with changes in the technology during the High Middle Ages. Cities and banks were also present. When the 14th Century came, the West was plagued by the Black Death. It caused the fall of trade and instigated the difference of the upper and lower classes. A war which ran for a hundred years between the English and the French rattled the political status of Europe. Papacy was also affected in Rome when conflicts between popes occurred. All these are reflected in the arts during the period. Soon after, the Renaissance period which is dubbed as the time for reconstruction created new ways for the West. It was made evident that the Catholic Church is a very important institution. The Western civilization faced rises and falls caused by wars, invaders and other factors. All the events contributed on what the West has in the present civilization today. References: A Review of Western Civilization. The Riemann Hypothesis Essay Example for Free

The Riemann Hypothesis Essay The Riemann Zeta Function is defined by the following series: Here s is a complex number and the first obvious issue is to find the domain of this function, that is, the values of s where the function is actually defined. First of all, it is a well known result in calculus that, when s is real, the series is convergent for s1 (see [2]). For example, a simple application of the theory of Fourier series allows to prove that . For s=1, the series diverges. However, one can prove that the divergence is not too bad, in the sense that: In fact, we have the inequalities: Summing from 1 to , we find that and so which implies our claim. As a function of the real variable s,   is decreasing, as illustrated below.   for s real and 1 The situation is   more complicated when we consider the series as a function of a complex variable. Remember that a complex number is a sum , where   are real numbers (the real and the imaginary part of z, respectively) and , by definition. One usually writes   There is no ordering on the complex numbers, so the above arguments do not make sense in this setting.   We remind that the complex power   is defined by and Therefore, the power coincides with the usual function when s is real. It is not difficult to prove that the complex series is convergent if Re(s)1. In fact, it is absolutely convergent because where |z| denotes as usual, the absolute value: .   See [2] for the general criteria for convergence of   series of functions. Instead, it is a non-trivial task to prove that the Riemann Zeta Function can be extended far beyond on the complex plane: Theorem.   There exists a (unique) meromorphic function on the complex plane, that coincides with , when Re(s)1. We will denote this function again by We have to explain what ‘meromorphic’ means. This means that the function is defined, and holomorphic (i.e. it is differentiable as a complex function), on the complex plane, except for a countable set of isolated points, where the function has a ‘pole’. A complex function f(z) has a pole in w if the limit   exists and is finite for some integer m. For example,   has a pole in s=1. It is particularly interested to evaluate the Zeta Function at negative integers. One can prove the following: if k is a positive integer then where the Bernoulli numbers   are defined inductively by: Note that : the Bernoulli numbers with odd index greater than 1 are equal to zero. Moreover, the Bernoulli numbers are all rational. Of course, the number   is not obtained by replacing s=1-k in our original definition of the function, because the series would diverge; in fact, it would be more appropriate to write   where the superscript * denotes the meromorphic function whose values are defined, only when Re(s)1, by the series . There is a corresponding formula for the positive integers: 2 It is a remarkable fact that the values of the Riemann Zeta Function at negative integers are rational. Moreover, we have seen that   if n0 is even. The natural question arises: are there any other zeros of the Riemann Zeta Function? Riemann Hypothesis. Every zero of the Riemann Zeta Function must be either a negative even integer or a complex number of real part =  ½. It is hard to motivate this conjecture in an elementary setting, however the key point is that there exists a functional equation relating   and   (in fact, such a functional equation is exactly what is needed to extend   to the complex plane). The point   is the center of symmetry of the map It is also known that   has infinitely many zeros on the critical line Re(s)=1. Why is the Riemann Zeta function so important in mathematics? One reason is the strict connection with the distribution of prime numbers. For example, we have a celebrated product expansion: where the infinite product is extended to all the prime numbers and Re(s)1. So, in some sense, the Riemann Zeta function is an analytically defined object, encoding virtually all the information about the prime numbers. For example, the fact that   can be used to prove Dirichlet’s theorem on the existence of infinitely many prime numbers in arithmetic progression. The product expansion implies that   for every s such that Re(s)1. In fact, we have: and it is not difficult to check that this product cannot vanish. Roles of a father for childhood development

Roles of a father for childhood development Improved Cognitive Abilities The old myths that a father is not important in a childs development as compared to a mothers are false. Recent research studies show that the fathers role is very crucial to a childs development. This persuasive essay will discuss the benefits of a single father and the positive benefits of their active involvement. Being an involved father ensures adequate cognitive ability, supports the childs educational achievements and awareness of general health and social behavior. Fathers are far more than just second adults in the home. Involved fathers-especially biological fathers- bring positive benefits to their children that no other person is as likely to bring. (Popenoe, 1996, p.163). Educational Achievements Recent reports by the National Principles Association Report (2009) state that 71% of all children from fatherless homes are high school dropouts. The impact of a positive biological father or father figure produces better verbal skills and nonverbal skills. These skills in turn help develop things like planning and building (UMPC, 2009). Father absence is a risk factor that makes it more difficult for children to succeed in school. Brisnaire, et al, (1990) further states that access two both parents seemed to be the protective factor for better academic adjustment. Men in general help children transition from a life of financial dependence to independence. Parents should stay involved with their childrens education from elementary school through high school and beyond to help them maximize their academic achievement.Childrens social, physical, and intellectual development benefit greatly from the involvement of fathers, observes Yale child psychiatrist Kyle Pruett (quoted by Judsen Culbreth, What Dads Are Made Of, Readers Digest, June 2005, p. 72A). Childhood Development of Social Behaviors and Well Being Without a father figure in the early stages of childhood can have a negative impact in their social behavior and general health. Children from fatherless homes account for the following statistics: 85% of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders (Center for Disease Control), 71% of pregnant teenagers. (US dept. of Health and Human Services), 63% of youth suicides (US dept of health and human services, Bureau of the Census), 90% of all homeless and runaway children. These statistics alone are very frightening and dishearten. Another important role of a father is the role modeling regarding the interaction with the opposite sex. Being a positive role model can include the development of a strong positive relationship with the childs other parent. They are less likely to abuse their wives or children (Gallagher and Waite, 2000). They are taught to observe how men treat woman. Sometimes they will choose a good companion of proper standards. Fathers also help with filtering out comp anions with bad standard. A fathers presence alone can provide a sense of justice and fairness which teaches the child the consequences of right and wrong as well build independence and confidence. A father tends to oversee their childs relation to the world. They basically focus their attention on what their children will or will not be prepared for or encounter in the world. A father can guide a child through everyday experiences guiding their development of problem solving techniques. Conclusion I can concur growing up as a child without a father and being a part of those statistics. Now that Im a father myself, I play an active role in my childrens lives. I have personally seen an improvement in my sons academic achievements as well his overall well being. He has stated to me that he is more confident and actively seeks me out to discuss problems at school which he did not do when he lived with his mother. Being an involved single father will make a change in that childs life; changing the statistics. Our presence, will give our children a chance to live a positive, healthy, well-balanced respectful life. REFERENCES: Brent, David A. (1995). During the middle decades of the 19th century, capitalist forces of foreign countries invaded China, and China was slowly transformed into a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society. The founding of the People's Republic in 1949 marked China's entry into the socialist stage. During the long period of historical development, the industrious, courageous, and intelligent Chinese people of all nationalities collectively created a great civilization, and made a great contribution to all of mankind For the first time in decades a Chinese government was met with peace, instead of massive military opposition, within it’s territory. However, it wasn’t like that for long, in the first half of the 20th century, China was beset by major famines, civil unrest, military defeats, and foreign occupation. After World War II, the communists under MAO Zedong established a dictatorship that, while ensureing China’s sovereignty, imposed strict controls over everyday life and cost the lives of tens of millions of people. This new leadership was highly disciplined and, having a decade of wartime administrative experience to draw on, was able to embark on a program of national integration and reform. In the first year of Communist administration, moderate social and economic policies were implemented with skill and effectiveness.

How do William Blake and William Wordsworth respond to nature in their

How do William Blake and William Wordsworth respond to nature in their poetry? The Romantic Era was an age, which opened during the Industrial (1800-1900) and French Revolution (1789). These ages affected the romantic poets greatly by disrupting and polluting nature. Before the Industrial Revolution, William Blake wrote about Songs of Innocence. He also wrote Songs of Experience but after the Industrial Revolution. William Wordsworth, on the other hand, continued on an optimistic route and ignored the Industrial Revolution in his poems. He instead wrote about nature only and its beauty. Previous Augustan poets were more controlled and rule governed. They were also concerned with order. In Blake’s ‘London’, he describes the city as being dirty and restricted giving a pessimistic image, whereas Wordsworth describes it as a beautiful and free city giving an optimistic image. Blake shows how in his point of view, he thinks the city is controlled, â€Å"Near where the charter’d Thames does flow.† The adjective ‘charter’d’ illustrates how the Thames is under control. Blake also talks about how the people's minds are not free to think, â€Å"The mind-forg’d manacles I hear.† The noun ‘manacles’ describes people’s minds as being chained and controlled like slaves and prisoners. ‘London’ is set in the night time which straight away makes you think about the city being drowned in darkness, â€Å"But most thro’ midnight streets I hear.† The adjective ‘most’ shows us how nearly everything occurs at night. The darkness also shows us how there is a feeling of secrecy. On the other hand, in ‘Composed upon Westminster Bridge’, Wordsworth shows in his perspective that nothing is controlled in the city,†The river glideth at his ow... ...e also talks about how the church was ruining nature, â€Å"And tomb-stones where flowers should be.† The noun ‘tomb-stones’ shows how instead of the beauty of nature, they build an unattractive site. ‘Jerusalem’ uses rhetorical questions, â€Å"And did those feet in ancient time walk upon England’s mountains green?† This creates an effect on the reader by pulling him into the poem. Blake also talks about the past beauty of England. Blake criticizes the Industrial Revolution in his poem ‘Jerusalem’, â€Å"And was Jerusalem builded here, Among these dark Satanic mills?† The adjective ‘Satanic’ signifies evil. This shows how much Blake despises The Industrial Revolution and how he thinks its demonic. From this essay, I conclude that William Blake and William Wordsworth have the same views of nature before the Industrial Revolution but take different paths after it. Drug Smuggling in Malaysia Essay -- Legal Issues, Drugs, Drug Mule

Drug smuggling cases have created a grave concerns in Malaysia. As I go through the â€Å"Special Report : Decline in Drug Mules† 2010 by BERNAMA, I feel impel to discuss further about this issue. In this article, the definition of drug mule is not given. But, I have come across a definition from Smith (2010) which stated that drug mules are people whose bodies are used to transport drugs to another country. Moreover, Kusyi (2010) defined drug mule as a phrase that refers to someone who is willing or duped to be a courier, carrying drugs or smuggling drugs to other countries. So we can conclude that drug mule is an illegal action that opposes the law throughout the countries. According to BERNAMA (2010), it is estimated that about 1490 Malaysians are now languishing in foreign prisons for drug related offences including drug mules. For me, it is quite a number to be worried of. Our country will experience a great loss of local energies if the number continues to grow. However, the statistics from Bukit Aman show a steep decline in number of Malaysians being detained in foreign lands for carrying drugs in 2010 compared to the previous year (BERNAMA, 2010). As a generation of future leaders, I realize despite the fact that the cases reported is decreasing, the problem is indeed critical and if we stay still from the beginning, I strongly believe it could jeopardize our nation’s future. Thus, we should give serious attention to this problem as this article also reported that the members of international drug syndicates are still actively recruiting new innocent victims of drug mules although in smaller numbers. To begin with, this article has emphasized the victims of the syndicates which are identified to be in between 20s and 30s ... ...hich depicts that they are not afraid of the punishment. To sum up, I agree with all factors and suggestions highlighted in this article. I think this report has succeeded in helping me to realize the significance of this problem and has encouraged me to share my opinions to help the government to eradicate this menace. However, deeper explanations should be included and added so that readers will gain more information about this crime from all aspects. I really hope that we can give our helping hands to fight this menace. Prevention is better than cure. Lastly, I agree with Kusyi (2010) when she said that if ago, parents worries when their children went abroad were about halal food, marry a foreigner, forget their origins and their religion or do not want to return home, now parents have to ensure one more thing which is do not let your child be a drug mule!

Pressures of Frito Lay

essuresWhat are the sources of pressure on firms such as FL to reduce their environmental footprint? Many industries in the UK and abroad have similar pressures from groups and environmentalists which cause severe problems to the company’s credibility and causes issues to customers knowing the fact that the company is facing problems. In the United Kingdom itself there are groups that pressure companies with environmental factors they are: For Environment: Campaign for Better Transport Campaign to Protect Rural England Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales Climate Camp GreenpeaceFriends of the Earth (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) Friends of the Earth Scotland Forum for the Future Surfers against Sewage Rowers against Thames Sewage (RATS) Waste Watch Rights Of Way Alliance Neath (Rowan) Women's Environmental Network For Food: Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) aFood Commission Sustain the alliance for better food and farming. The pressures are due to the customers also. Some of them insist that the bags for chips should be eco-friendly while other applauds Frito-Lay for its green efforts. Because of this, Frito-Lays sales have dipped as they introduced the eco-friendlyFrito-Lay was threatened to be sued by a news service company and The Centre for Science in the public interest (CSPI) after Frito-Lay switched the name on its olestra-laden snack line. This came into picture when FDA withdrew a requirement that companies warn customers of Olestra possible side effects. Centre for Science in the Public interest speculated that Frito Lay was trying to set apart its low-fat chips from the previous olestra warnings. After the warnings Frito-Lay made a settlement with CSPI in which Frito-Lay agreed to post Olestra Logo more transparent and also by adding the phrase â€Å"Made with Olestra† more flagrantly.Executive director of CSPI, Michael F. Jacobson said in a press statement about the settlement that Frito lay agreed to these modest changes, whi ch are sufficient to avoid a lawsuit and will help consumers who know to avoid Olestra to do so. But this was not without a flipside, even with the Olestra logo the complete fault is not stated in the bag. The possibility of side effect with use of olestra will not be mentioned in the packaging instead it will acknowledge Olean as a low-fat property on the chip line. An Environmental Footprint is an extent to the amount of bio productive land and sea required to sustain a person’s lifestyle. It includes the land required to cultivate their food, dispose of their waste and absorb their carbon emission. Another pressure came from four associations which include Green Peace, Organic Consumers Association, friends of the earth and other associations claim that 15 American largest food corporations are using GE based ingredients in their products and was asked to ban this ingredient from their products. After this acquisition Frito-Lay announced that 95% of their corns for corn pro ducts are GE free. http://www. organicconsumers. org/ge/gepotatoban. cfm

Exclusion Clauses Essay

Over the past a few(prenominal) decades, with the development of bargain law, to a greater extent and more people has paid attention to the extrusion cla handlings dribbleed in a enter which is write by the parties. M any produceing parties use this technique to negate obligation for faulting of sign. In this essay, exception articles can be defined as a article overwhelmd in a contract to either limit or splay indebtedness of a companionship in breach of the agreement. (to a fault termed freedom articles or unsusceptibility articles. ) Consequently, it is argued that whether the party leave be spring by the exemption clause which is write by the parties or non. Therefore, this essay lead analyze the exemption clause with theme song based on well-nigh(prenominal) dally of plainlyice miscues and ornament the exit of an un subscribe exemption clause by using a short sibylline scenario and a court part. Signed Exclusion clauses As a general rule, a perso n who residences a memorial which contains contractual hurt is chute by the clause of the inscription. To be specific, if a party signs a contractual schedule incorporating an exemption clause, it go away automatically frame part of the contract. Therefore, Signature can usually bind a person to the impairment even if he has non canvass or understood the terms practice out in the document. What has come to be known as the regulation in LEstrange v Graucob was de nonative by Scrutton LJ as follows When a document containing contractual terms is sign, then, in the absence seizure of fraud, or, I impart add, misrepresentation, the party write it is margin, and it is wholly immaterial whether he has take in the document or not. According to the field of LEstrange v Graucob 1934 2 KB 394, the complainant bought an automatic behind utensil from the defendants. She signed a contract called sales agreement which include several clauses, still did not read. When s he discovered the machine was defective, she tried and true to sue Graucob for breach of contract, but the defendant was able to rely on the ejection clause incorporated into the compose contract. From this case, it can be seen that since the plaintiff has signed the sales agreement, the contract and the projection clauses has interpreted effect. In addition, the contents of the document were correspond correctly and no fraud on the part of the defendants. Therefore, L Estrange is specify by the exclusion clauses. further, the rule in L Estrange v Graucob will not apply under some serving.Firstly, if the signed document could not evenhandedly be regarded in the circumstances as likely to contain contractual terms, the party will not be bound by the signature. In the case Le Mans Grand Prix Circuits Pty Ltd v Iliadis, the plaintiff was hurt while driving a drug dealer at the defendants travel track. P was invited there as a guest to help the promotion of Ds go-kart track and did not afford for the attendance at the track. The defendant trea trued to avoid liability by relying on an agreement, signed by the plaintiff which includes an exclusion clause. The count made a finale that the defendant was unable to rely on the exclusion clause so as to avoid liability. Because the plaintiff attended defendants track was not in pursuance of a commercial relations of relationship with the defendant. Thereby, the entry form was just a driver registration form, not a contract. In other word, the document which the plaintiff had signed was not contractual, although the agreement contained plaintiffs signature, he was not bound it because the signed document could not reasonably be regarded in the circumstances as likely to contain contractual terms.Secondly, a person who misrepresents the clause and its effect is not allowed to rely on the exemption clause to escape liability. The case of Curtis v Chemical Cleaning and Dyeing Co clearly illustrate the legal p osition. In this case, Curtis took a wedding dress to the defendants denounce to have it dry out cleaned. The shop assistant asked her to sign a receipt, and the plaintiff was told by the shop assistant that the document was to exempt defendants from liability for modify to the beads and the sequins. The plaintiff signed the document, which in fact include a clause that the company is not apt(predicate) for any damage howsoever arising. The dress was varnished by the defendant who later tried to rely on the exclusion clause. The tap judged that the clause is not effective and the defendant cannot rely on it. Because in this case, the exclusion clause had been misrepresented as exactly beads and sequins would be affected. and the plaintiff pattern she was only running the risk of damage to the sequins and the beads on the dress. Unsigned exclusion clausesIn our daily life, the exemption clause also contained in some unsigned document, such as rags, invoices, receipts, vouchers and so on. Upon near situations, these unsigned documents may not be binding in contract unless they be properly included into the contract. Although, Signature is the about common way to confirm the persuasiveness of a contract, that no means if you take ont sign the form you could not be bound by it, in some particular cases it is. Firstly, a hypothetical scenario will be made to illustrate the effect of exclusion clause in an unsigned document.Alex had toothache seriously, he went to a pharmacy and bought a box of Panadol. to begin with he took the tablets he saw the demonstration and even the container has written on that essential follow the doctors advice, if you put one overt follow the advice, there is not liable for any harm of your proboscis but he didnt sustainment about the warning and take common chord tablets. On the following day, Alex felt punch-drunk and nausea. After the diagnosis from doctor, it can be considered that these symptom due to the effect of euphony. Then, Alex sued the medicine company.Under this situation, the defendant can avoid liability by exemption clause even though Alex did not sign the document. As the common law say that exclusion clauses contained in unsigned documents are not valid unless a commonsensible person would contain the document to contain contractual document and a intelligent ascertain is given. In this case, contractual terms can be expected to remember from the introduction and container of the medicine. In addition, company also takes reasonable steps to bring these clauses to Alexs notice. Thus, the plaintiff was already bound by the exemption clauses. Another court case for the unsigned exclusion clause is the case of Parker v South Eastern line Co, plaintiff left his clutch at cloakroom in a railway station and he got a ticket. On the front of the ticket say receive back, the other side include an exclusion clause which shows that company will only be responsible for the cli ng to of package within 10 pounds. When the bag could not be found, Parker sued the company for 2410 pounds. However the court judged that the plaintiff was bound by the exclusion clause on the ticket even though he did not sign it. Because the company has already gave the plaintiff sufficient notice of the existence of the clause and a reasonable person would expect to find these terms. According to the basic principle in contract law which said that the unsigned exemption clause will be bound if reasonable notice has been given. Conclusion To sum up, exclusion clause can be classified as signed document and unsigned document in this essay. When considerate the effectiveness of a clause, every aspects should be analyzed. Although the signature is an authorised factor to prove if the clause is valid, it does not mean that all the exclusion clauses included in a signed document can be bound with a signer. To the contrary, the exemption clause in an unsigned document can also be valid in some situation. Therefore, any party who wish rely on the exemption clause to avoid liability should incorporate the clause into a contract with sufficient notice and make sure the behaviors of the party is reasonable.
